The
Fifth Annual Backyard Habitat Tour Takes Place June, Saturday, June
23rd, 2007
Genesee
Land Trust announces its fifth annual Backyard Habitat Tour will
take place on Saturday, June 23 rd between 9 and 4 pm . This popular
fundraiser is being sponsored by Wegmans, ESL, Heluva Good Cheese
and The Genesee Valley Pond & Koi Club.
The
Backyard Habitat Tour is unique in that it presents gardens that
demonstrate the elements of habitat gardening or gardening to attract
and protect wildlife. This year’s gardens include a haven for native
bees in Brighton; a palatial garden setting located at a turn of
the century mansion in the city; a garden designer’s hidden paradise
frequently inhabited by city deer; a 20 year old habitat garden
that is both grand and full of native wildlife just minutes from
the 12 corners; a property of four distinct gardens including a
front garden of waist high flowers; a Pittsford property with a
Zen-like pond and a Fairport home with hills, meadows and multitudes
of butterflies.
The
Tour is self-guided and self-paced with attendees aided by a booklet
of maps, driving directions, garden stories and plant descriptions
and lists. Additionally, the gardeners are present at the tour and
able to answer any questions plus Genesee Land Trust volunteers
will greet you! Tickets are $15. for non Genesee Land Trust members
and $12 dollars for members and will be available for sale at the
Genesee Land Trust office located at 500 East Ave. or at any Wegmans.
Tickets will go on sale in May. All proceeds support the conservation
efforts of the Trust which now protects over 2500 acres in Greater
Rochester. For more information, call Margaret Potter at Genesee
