Tour Features Stunning Brighton-Pittsford Gardens

Genesee Land Trust is marking the 5 th anniversary of its Backyard Habitat Tour this June 23 rd with an array of stunning and wildlife attracting properties, many of which are located in Brighton and Pittsford. Lee Caine, of Brighton had worked for over 20 Heidi Katz’s suburban garden, replete with pond and Outback (home to city deer) and hugging the city border is being shown years and making her garden wildlife friendly. Caine, a perennial student of native plants, has worked to create a space filled with native trees, shrubs, plants and herbs. With water features and feeders, the Caine garden is home to everything from ducks, hawks and hummingbirds and much more!

Just blocks from the Caine garden is Mary Coupe’s back and front yard habitat of knee-high flowers. Just minutes away is Jason Sackett’s ( native beekeeper also in Brighton) garden with bee colonies, bat houses, and water features will delight and educate tour-goers. His small suburban space, turned into a authentic habitat garden in just two years will inspire both novice and experts alike.

In Pittsford, Leslie Jacobs’ naturally designed pond, created by Heidi Katz, dominates her garden space and send tour-goers home with ideas, but also with a sense of calm that exudes that hidden special habitat. Finally in Pittford, Wayne Greenfield’s backyard habitat is the product of 21 years of studying with the experts, transforming a typical suburban space into a haven for wildlife.

In addition to these Brighton- Pittsford gardens, the Tour also stops in the heart of the city at the home of Nancy Dean of Sibley Place and in Fairport at Anne Schuler’s hillside habitat.
