“A Free Lecture at Brighton Memorial Library: Rochester In Green And Blue:  An Open Space Tour”

On Thursday, February 19 at 7p.m., the Brighton Memorial Library and the Genesee Land Trust will host “Rochester in Green and Blue: An Open Space Tour.  Presenting will be Tom Frey, member of the board of directors and former Monroe County Executive.  Frey will offer a tour of Rochester’s present and future waterfront greenway.  He will provide insight into the development of the City’s Genesee Riverway Trail, a National Recreation Trail, from the lakefront to the canal and will show the plans to have a neighborhood trail, El Camino, be linked to the River and eventually to the Town of Irondequoit.  The downtown trail, El Camino, was spearheaded by Frey as a way of using an abandoned railway bed to create a walking/biking greenway for neighborhoods with little park or natural space. El Camino (The People’s Trail) runs from Conkey and Clifford Avenues to High Falls to Seneca Park.  Its expansion to be linked to the riverfront and to be connected to Irondequoit will mark the first time a downtown neighborhood will be connected by walking trails to the great natural resource of the Genesee River. Additionally, Genesee Land Trust and the City of Rochester have built a corner park, The Conkey Corner Park, at the gateway of El Camino. Over 100 children from schools #8, 22 and 50 helped to plant.    There will be time allotted for questions answers. The talk and power point will show the importance of community involvement in preserving and expanding the great natural resources of our area and making them more accessible to both urban and suburban residents. “Rochester in Green and Blue: An Open Space Tour”, to be held on Thursday, February 19th at 7 p.m. at the Brighton Memorial Library Learning Center is free and open to the public.
