Spring work parties take place March, through June at various preserves. Fall work parties generally take place in September and October. Work may include trail repair and building, general clean-up and invasive species mitigation.  Please keep checking this page for exact date, times and locales of upcoming work days.  Email Kathy Blachowski for any questions or call her at (585) 256-2130

         

Kraai Preserve, Arcadia: Saturday, April 10th, Noon to 3:00 PM

 Work will include trail clearing, brush pruning and mulching of the existing trail. Tools needed: long pants (long sleeves recommended also, due to poison ivy), work gloves, saws, shovels/pitch forks, hammers, loppers and hand clippers. Driving Directions: Travel east on Rte 31 into the City of Newark. At the intersection with Rte 88 turn left (north). Follow Rte 88 north for about a mile. Turn right onto Welcher Road. Norsen Road will be on the left approximately 2 miles north on Welcher Road intersecting at a sharp right bend in the road. Follow Norsen Road to its end and park at the guard rail 

 

Brookdale Preserve, Chili: Saturday, April 24th, 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM  

 Work will include trail clearing, brush trimming, mulching and sign posting. Tools needed: long pants, work gloves, boots (we may be working in shallow, standing water at times), hammers, saws, shovels/pitchforks, loppers and hand clippers. (If you are able to bring a wheel barrow that would be helpful as well for the mulching.) Driving Directions: Brookdale Preserve is north of Brook Road, bordered on one side by the Genesee Valley Greenway Trail. From the intersection of Rte 252 (Jefferson Road) and Rte 383 (Scottsville Road) in Chili, go south on 383, turn right (west) on Brook Road. We will meet in the New York State Department of Parks parking lot on the right.

 

 Manitou Beach Preserve,Greece:Saturday, May 1st, 9:00 AM to Noon

 Work will include planting native shrubs and maintaining trails by clipping brush. Tools needed: work gloves, shovels, pruners, saws and loppers. Directions: Take Lake Ontario State Parkway west.  Exit onto Manitou Beach Road (There are several exits with Manitou in the name of the road, make sure that you exit onto Manitou BEACH Road).  Turn right at the end of the exit ramp onto Manitou Beach Road. Park on the right side of the road just before the intersection with Braddocks Avenue
