Woodsmith Conservation Easement
| |

|
| Size: |
100 acres
|
| Location: |
Town of Ontario, Wayne County
|
| Description: |
The property is a mix of deciduous woodlands, evergreen plantations,
open fields and 1,000 feet of Deer Creek. An important bird
and wildlife habitat, this parcel expands and buffers the
sensitive Amy’s Ponds 87-acre conservation easement.
|
| History: |
In 2001, Janet Smith more than doubled her original gift
of Amy’s Ponds Conservation Easement by donating to
the Trust a second easement, Woodsmith, that protects an additional
100 acres adjacent to Amy’s Ponds. She and her husband,
Robert, are eager to enhance the natural diversity of this
beautiful property by maintaining the open fields as grassland
habitat.
|
| Public Access: |
Although Genesee Land Trust occasionally invites members
on outings to a conservation easement property with the owner’s
consent, conservation easement properties remain private property
and therefore no public access is permitted.
