Westside Gardens Featured On This Year’s Backyard Habitat
Tour
On Saturday, June 24th from 9 to 4PM, Rochesterians will be treated
to the beauty and wilderness of the west side of town when Genesee
Land Trust presents two Chili gardens in it Backyard Habitat Tour.
The Smith and Burtner gardens are both large properties that demonstrate
the garden features that protect and attract wildlife. With ponds,
bogs, flowing water, woods and native plantings, birds, butterflies
and even larger creatures enjoy inhabiting these open spaces of
Chili. Both gardeners have spent many years taking barren spaces
and transforming them into lush retreats that entice humans as well
as wildlife.
These properties, plus 5 others in different parts of town make
up Genesee Land Trust’s most popular fund raiser – The
Backyard Habitat Tour. This year’s tour takes place on Saturday,
June 24th. Tickets are available up to the day of the tour at at
all Wegmans and until Friday June 23rd at Genesee Land Trust. Tickets
are $12 for Genesee Land Trust members and $15 for non members.
