GLT's Habitat Gardening
Club
Genesee
Land Trust’s Habitat Gardening Club, Brighton Memorial Library,
December 15, 2005
On Wednesday, December 15th at 7:00 p.m. the Genesee Land Trust
held its first meeting of the Habitat Gardening Club, facilitated
by Sara Rubin, of Brighton, a nationally certified habitat gardener
and volunteer of the Land Trust. The Rubin Garden was featured on
last summer’s Backyard Habitat Tour earning raves reviews
by tour-goers. The meeting was held at the Brighton Memorial Library
at 2300 Elmwood Avenue, at the Town Hall Complex.
This different kind of
gardening club plans to focus on sharing knowledge or ideas on things
such as: rain gardens, roof gardens and useful native plant species.
Rubin has great plans for the club and asks that participants bring
a note book, a news article that speaks to habitat issues, i.e.
the discovery of the Ivory Billed Woodpecker in the preserved habitat
in Arkansas and, of course, participants’ garden goals are
key.
The idea of the club
is to share information, with opportunities for everyone to ask
and answer questions, and discuss their own garden delights and
challenges. The club’s next meeting is January 15th . February
28th the club will take a field trip to the Penfield Library to
attend Carol Southby’s lecture. For more information please
call Margaret Potter at the Land Trust: 256-2130.
