Beach Road: Native Habitat Restored, October 1, 2005
A work party organized by the Rochester Birding Association (RBA)
brought out 30 folks on a lovely October day to plant 100 native
trees and shrubs; construct wire cages to protect the trees from
the deer and spread seed of native plants. Our goal: Create habitat
that is attractive to migrating and resident birds. Bob Mauceli,
President of RBA, rallied members of RBA, the Braddock Bay Bird
Observatory and the Trust with bagels, coffee and his hardworking
example. Jim Engel of White Oak Nursery and Chris Gates, a neighbor
and BBBO member, provided native trees and shrubs and their strong
backs. The Town of Greece provided the mulch, soil and wood chips.
