Hats off to Casia Moffatt
Genesee Land Trust gives a big “thumbs up” to Casia
Moffatt, a 16 year old East Ridge High School student whose volunteer
initiative – The Walk-A-Thon For Genesee Land Trust held September
24th at Ellison Park raised over $1,100 in support of the Trust’s
conservation efforts.
Casia called Genesee Land Trust last summer offering to volunteer
for the non-profit after dreaming and worrying about our environment.
After meeting executive director, Gay Mills, Casia began helping
out in the East Ave. office and accompanying Mills on trips to preserves
and farmland projects. By mid-summer, the teen announced to both
Mills and assistant director, Margaret Potter that she wanted to
do more – she wanted to hold an event, invite her friends,
tennis team and the community to join her – and the Walk-A-Thon
was born!
September 24th was a beautiful day to walk Ellison Park in Penfield,
and many did as Casia and other members of the Moffatt family greeted
them with Genesee Land Trust information and brownies!
By day’s end a total of $1,100 was raised from members, the
general public and the Rochester Area Community Foundation.
Tom Tette, president of the Trust says, “Casia Moffatt is
a great young adult – a true role model to her peers and source
of pride to all who know her.”
