FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Natural habitat and farmland preserved by Genesee Land Trust
The Genesee Land Trust has announced that it is the recipient of
a conservation easement on farmland and woodlands along Arcadia-Zurich
Road in Wayne County, the gift of Rebecca Kraai of Rochester. The
Kraai land is rich with hay fields, woodlands, wetlands and hedge-rows
sheltering a multitude of wildlife. Now because of the agreement
with the Genesee Land Trust, the natural habitats will be conserved
in perpetuity. With this gift the Land Trust adds 105 acres to the
1500 it already protects located among Monroe, Wayne and Livingston
Counties. Kraai’s decision to protect this acreage with the
gift of a conservation easement on the land to the Genesee Land
Trust came about largely because of her commitment to protecting
the natural health of the land. Kraai also has a desire to offer
future generations an opportunity to “connect with the beauty
of the land and be open to the peace that can come from it,”
as she and her family have done. Thomas Tette, President of the
Trust’s Board of Directors, expressed the gratitude of all
for Kraai’s generosity.
In honor of the gift and in celebration of Genesee Land Trust’s
15th Anniversary, “Crowfields” – the Kraai Easement,
will be open to the public for exploring its fields, woods, and
wetlands on Sunday, May 22nd, 2005. The Genesee Land Trust invites
all to visit its Web site at www.geneseelandtrust.org
or call 256-2130 for more information about this and other anniversary
events.
The Genesee Land Trust office is located at 500 East Avenue in
Rochester. Gay Mills serves as the Trust’s Executive Director.
