Rochester Area Community Foundation Grant Supports the Genesee Land
Trust
Genesee Land Trust is
pleased to announce that it is the recipient of grant funding in
the amount of $7,500 from Rochester Area Community Foundation. This
award will support the Genesee Land Trust’s initiative to
expand its staff by adding a new Land Protection Coordinator, thereby
increasing the Trust’s ability to preserve unique natural
places and protect working farms in the greater Rochester Area.
The Community Foundation funding constitutes a portion of the required
match for a $35,000 grant from the New York State Conservation Partnership
Program that the Trust recently received.
Genesee Land Trust, founded by residents of the greater Rochester
area in 1989, currently protects 2500 acres of critical habitat
and open space in the region. It is committed to making a long-term
difference in the area by protecting its environmental and ecological
health, bringing the beauty and wonder of natural places to its
residents. With a compatible mission, the Rochester Area Community
Foundation works to “support programs that strengthen our
community, improve our environment and make a better quality of
life for families in our region.”
With this generous gift from the Rochester Area Community Foundation,
Genesee Land Trust will continue the stewardship of its 12 preserves
across the region and current projects, such as the establishment
of the Urban Trail -- a walking, biking greenway through the city
of Rochester, and increase the protection of key conservation lands.
Speaking on behalf of Genesee Land Trust, Executive Director, Gay
Mills said, “The Community Foundation has provided Genesee
Land Trust with pivotal support at this important time of our growth,
and we are most grateful.”
