Walk the Genesee River - January Mile

  • Genesee Valley Golf Course 1000 E River Rd Rochester, NY, 14623 United States (map)

Rochester's urban corridor along the river is about 13 miles long, and in 2020 the Genesee River Alliance wants to explore most of it by walking at least a mile a month!

Starting this month, on the 2nd Saturday of each month, we will host a guided walk, beginning at Genesee Valley Park in January and ending at Ontario Beach next December.

See parts of the river that perhaps you've never seen, learn some of its history, and take a few beautiful river photographs along the way! For more information, contact Genesee River Alliance Coordinator, Helen Dumas at hdumas@geneseelandtrust.org or 585-256-2130.

Description: A 2.75 roundtrip walk along the river as it flows north through Genesee Valley Park and converges with Erie Canal and Red Creek. Discover vantage points, bridges, and secret spots of wilderness as well as local history along the southernmost mile of the Genesee River all within the City of Rochester.

Meeting Spot: Genesee Valley Golf Course Parking Lot

Leader: Allen Handelman, President, Genesee Land Trust Board of Directors and Genesee River “first” mile resident

Please Note: Rain/snow or shine – dress for the weather. We will provide light refreshments – please bring your cameras and if you would like, you may bring your dog on a leash.
