Roaming the River with Ganondagan

  • Genesee Riverway Trail 15 Seneca Parkway Rochester, NY, 14613 United States (map)

Genesee River Alliance and Ganondagan Seneca Art and Culture Center are leading two walks along the Genesee River on June 5th, the first walk beginning at 12 pm and the second beginning at 2 pm. Learn some of the history of the Haudenosaunee people that lived, fished and hunted along the Genesee River through traditional stories told by talented Native American Interpreters.  You’ll also see and hear about some of the flora and fauna that can be found on the trail today.

These walks are both guided and family friendly. Please dress appropriately for walking and the weather (sturdy footwear, sun protection, and clothing to accommodate the temperature).

Parking will be available at the Emmanuel Temple of Rochester parking lot located at 15 Seneca Parkway, Rochester, NY 14613. Please be sure to park in the smaller lot of the two located at the church.

The walks will be a little over 1.5 miles on a mostly paved path starting in the parking lot at Emmanuel Temple of Rochester and continuing on the Genesee River Trail towards Maplewood Rose Garden. The path will then take us down towards Kelsey's Landing to continue along the Genesee River and underneath Driving Park Bridge before entering Lower Falls Park. After a loop around the park, the group will head back up towards Maplewood Rose Garden. The path leading to the garden is a steep incline that may prove to be difficult for some folks. We will be crossing Driving Park Avenue at the crosswalk but will do so as a group. The walk will then head back along the same path towards the church.
