Mercer Conservation Easement

Location: Town of Clarkson, Monroe County

Size: 87 acres

Description: This conservation easement consists of 60 acres of high-quality forested wetlands. The wetlands provide important habitat for aquatic invertebrates, reptiles, birds, amphibians, mammals, and other wildlife. The wetlands are also part of a larger forested wetland complex within the Braddock Bay watershed of Lake Ontario and help reduce flooding of more populated areas farther downstream. These wet woods are home to red and white oaks, hickory trees, maples, black cherry, and red and white pine trees. A three-acre meadow is a great spot for seeing migratory birds in the spring and wildflowers in late summer.

History: The conservation easement was donated by Kermit Mercer in 2021.
