Trail Keepers: Cornwall Preserve Maintenance

  • Cornwall Preserve 3975 Lake Road Williamson, NY, 14589 United States (map)

We’re celebrating 10 years of Cornwall Preserve! We are hosting an event each season to celebrate the preserve and all of the special people who helped make it what it is today. This season’s event is Signs of Spring, a walk to observe Cornwall Preserve’s grasslands, wetlands, and woodlands after a long winter. In preparation of this special walk, we will be cleaning up trash, trimming back branches, and patching up soft spots on the Throop Trail Boardwalk.

All ages and ability levels are encouraged to sign-up; there will be a job for everyone. Please dress appropriately for working outdoors (closed-toe shoes, sturdy footwear, long pants, sun protection). We suggest you bring a water bottle and work gloves. Tools and instruction will be provided.  Click the button below to register.

To attend you must sign-up below. Please do not attend if you are not feeling well. An email reminder will be sent the week of the event with directions and parking details. Contact Will Macaluso at wmacaluso@geneseelandtrust.org with questions.

Event Waiver and Liability Release: Please read through this file before registering for the event. You will be asked to confirm you have read the file before submitting the registration.

About Trail Keepers
Trail Keepers is a volunteer group that gets together each month to work on trail and habitat improvement projects on Genesee Land Trust nature preserves and other conservation lands throughout the region. If you’re interested in volunteering outside, picking up some outdoor skills, and meeting others who care about the environment – Trail Keepers is the opportunity for you.

Accessibility: For questions about accessibility, reach out to Inclusion Point of Contact, Mckenna Erwell, at merwell@geneseelandtrust.org.

Access Barriers: The Throop Trail has a 5’ wide footbridge with ramps followed by narrow bog-boards which require stepping up to them and are 24” in width. All trails can be soft or have standing water after rainy days. To lower the chances of encountering outdoor hazards including thorns, poison ivy, and ticks, please stay on maintained trails.

Parking: The main parking lot is located at 3975 Lake Road in Williamson. The parking lot is compact gravel and accommodates eight to ten cars. There is a small compact gravel parking lot at the end of Hamilton Street Extension to the east that accommodates 4-5 cars. There are no designated accessible parking spots at either parking lot. There are no public transit options to the Preserve.

Restrooms: There are no bathrooms at the preserve at this time.

Pets: Dogs, other pets, emotional support, comfort, and companion animals are not allowed at Genesee Land Trust events. Although your pet may be friendly, everyone has different familiarity and experiences with animals. Thank you for being respectful to other attendees.

Service Animals: Service animals, which are dogs or miniature horses that are specifically trained to perform tasks for people with disabilities, are welcome. Service animals must always be under the control of the handler, housebroken, cleaned up after, and vaccinated in accordance with state laws.
