Why You Should Visit: Ganargua Creek Meadow Preserve is an exceptional spot for butterflies, dragonflies, and wildflowers. The Preserve includes grassy meadows, woodlands, and access to the winding Ganargua Creek. If visiting in the spring, look for wildflowers in the woods and if visiting in the summer look in the meadows. If entering the property from Wilkinson Road there are several locations to access Ganargua Creek for fishing. Visit eBird here to see what bird species have been observed recently.

Parking and Public Transit: There are two parking areas for the Preserve. The main parking area is off Wilkinson Road (195 N Hook Rd address on Google) and can accommodate 8-10 cars. The second parking area is off Bunker Hill Drive and accommodates two cars. There are no public transit options to Ganargua Creek Meadow Preserve.

Trails: Beginning at the trailhead from Wilkinson Road, a grass and compacted soil trail leads visitors into the Preserve along Ganargua Creek. Slopes on this trail range from 0-5% with two or three areas of steeper rises. This trail is 5’ wide. About 0.25 mile into the trail you will arrive at a kiosk where the trail transition to grass trails, approximately 5’ wide. These trails circle the meadows providing an addition 0.5 mile of trail. Beginning at the Bunker Hill parking area there is a steep switch backing trail through the woods down to the meadow areas. This woods trail has slopes between 5-10% and includes occasional uneven terrain from stones, roots, and leaves.

Benches and Shade: There are no benches at Ganargua Creek Meadow Preserve. Shade is provided from trees on the woods trail and the first 0.25 mile from the main parking lot on Wilkinson Road.

Restrooms: There are no restrooms at the Preserve. The closest public restrooms are at Tractor Supply, KFC, and Taco Bell, located approximately 3 miles away at 280 Pittsford-Palmyra Rd, Macedon.

Access Barriers: The woods trail is a steep switch backing trail through the woods down to the meadow areas. It has slopes between 5-10% and includes occasional uneven terrain from stones, roots, and leaves. After heavy rains, Ganargua Creek can flood making the Preserve inaccessible.

History: Donated in 1996 to Genesee Land Trust for preservation in honor of Tim Johnson, by his mother, Cynthia Kesselring and his stepfather, Leo Kesselring and partner, Frank Riedman. Wayne ARC owns 0.56 acres of adjacent land along Ganargua Creek. This land is managed by Genesee Land Trust in partnership with Macedon Trails. The trails group also assists with the trail maintenance on Ganargua Creek Meadow Preserve.


Getting There

Driving Directions: From Route 31 in Macedon, turn south on Route 306 (Wayneport Road). At the first intersection turn left on to Wilkinson Road.

Wilkinson Road Entrance (main entrance): From Route 31 in Macedon, turn south on Route 306 (Wayneport Road). At the first intersection turn left on to Wilkinson Road. Continue east along Wilkinson Road for approximately one mile, to the parking area on the right, just before the intersection with Victor Road. The trail begins at the green trailhead sign.

Bunker Hill Entrance: From Route 31 in Macedon, turn south on Route 306 (Wayneport Road). At the first intersection turn left on to Wilkinson Road. About a half mile down the road, at the crest of the hill, turn right on to Bunker Hill Drive. Follow Bunker Hill Drive to the end and park on the left near the Genesee Land Trust sign. The trail into the preserve starts begins at the top of the gravel driveway near the kiosk.
